Over the last 10 years, freedom from harassment of journalists advanced for 405 million people in 16 countries and declined for 4.9 billion people in 60 countries.

Advances on the indicator primarily took place in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia and the Pacific, while declines were spread across the globe.

While more countries in Europe and Central Asia declined on this indicator than in any other region, declines took place across the globe.
